We’re recruiting a Chairperson

We’re looking for an entrepreneurial, values-driven Chair to support us through our next stage of growth.

Promising Trouble is the social enterprise wing of Careful Trouble. Our work puts community power at the heart of technology and innovation and shows what a more equitable, just approach to tech might look like in action.

Over the last two years we’ve been growing the field of Community Tech, making the case for community-owned broadband, and holding power to account around AI governance. Our work combines policy development with practical demonstrators.

To support our next stage of growth and improve our governance, we are building a board. The Chair is the first appointment to the Board: we’re looking for someone who shares our values but can draw on different expertise and networks to those we already have in place. (You can find out more about the team here.)

The ideal candidate is someone who understands the UK tech sector, has grown a business or social enterprise (or several), and can support us in growing new relationships and developing a sustainable approach to income generation, so we can do more work, more effectively.

There’s more about us and our approach in the Recruitment Pack.

The time commitment for this role will be up to, and no more than, 12 days a year and we can offer a fee of £3k pa, which we expect to increase in line with our income generation.

We are committed to equity and justice, and strive to create, and support, a workplace where people want to show up, feel they belong and can use their agency to make positive change.

If you have any questions that aren’t covered in the Recruitment Pack or on our websites, please email Ashleigh Folan, Head of Operations, on jobs@promisingtrouble.net.
